There is a long history of gender-nonconformity within the fashion industry, dating back to the roots of the runway and far beyond. How much attention models receive when they don’t fit neatly into that binary, however, has often changed with the trends.
It has been a tremendous month for transgender people across North America. On June 4th, just days after became the first transwoman to ever grace the cover of Vanity Fair magazine, here in Canada the revolutionary Bill 77 received unanimous support from every party in the legislative assembly.
Canada’s wage gap has been well established. Researchers have uncovered wage disparities based on gender, race, immigration status and visible minority identities. But until now, little attention has been given to the relationship between wages and sexual orientation.
